St. Patrick’s Day – 2024

June 7, 2022

Rhode Island Irish Famine Memorial

“Brother sons” Tom Sweeney, Tim Chapman, Peter Dorsey, and Peter Cannon  as well as Current President Jim Cooney, marked the slightly chilly yet sunny day with a heartfelt Guinness toast to recently departed Son and war hero Jim Crowshaw, and to Jerry Cannon, Herbie Holland and all other fellow departed Friendly Sons, after a bit o’ banter,  a wee bit o’ laughter,  and a smidge of malarkey, before President Cooney offered the traditional Friendly Sons St. Patrick’s day toast to recognize: “The day we Celebrate” and to wish the President of the United States (and former organization annual dinner guest in 1986) Joseph R. Biden, Jr. our very best.

Ice cold cans of Guinness, bore silent yet well lubricated witness as these fine and committed lads once again basked in the glowing green radiance of their colorful cultural heritage and joined together in “celebrating the holiest of days” and another glorious year of living, working and just plain being Irish.

Four of the lads (Sweeney, Dorsey, Chapman and Cooney) reconvened to raise additional pints together and listen to some Irish tunes at Skeff’s in East Providence. Here’s to our 124th year and event in 2025…and to many, many more. Slainte’!
